Description
Monterey cypresses stand atop the bluffs at Monterey Bay.
The Monterey cypress or Cupressus macrocarpa, is native to the central coast of California. "In the wild, the species is confined to two small populations." From: "Cupressus macrocarpa - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monterey_Cypress (accessed 12/08/10). Both populations are located in Monterey County: Point Lobos near Carmel and Del Monte Forest near Monterey. "The gnarled appearance of the tree's architecture and broad spreading crown give rise to an iconic shape on the Monterey Peninsula." From: "Monterey Cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) - photo/images/information" : http://www.globaltwitcher.com/artspec_information.asp?thingid=62524 (accessed 12/08/10).
