This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Text written to right of photo: "The Hastings Building Sutter & Grant Avenue 1909." Photo shows the new four-story home of the Hastings Clothing Company, actually located at the northeast corner of Post and Grant. Other buildings are under construction on both streets. Wagons carrying building materials can be seen. The corner of the Shreve Building is visible at the extreme left. A single-track electric car on the 10th and Montgomery line is proceeding east on Post. The pole at left supporting the trolley wires is leaning at a precarious angle.
