Photograph caption dated September 21, 1957 reads "Charles Robert Speedie, 51, of Sylmar, swings his hat to hide his face as he arrived in Los Angeles to face forgery charges which rank him as Nation's [sic] number one bad check artist. Known as 'The Traveler' because of trail of rubber checks which bounced in 44 states, he had little to say on his arrival."
