Not long after Joan Barry filed the first paternity suit against Chaplin, federal prosecutors brought Mann Act charges against Charlie Chaplin in relation to Barry; he was acquitted. Photograph caption dated March 30, 1944 reads, "Mrs. L.C. Corcoran tells of selling gun to Joan Barry." Mrs. Corcoran's husband is the owner of a Hollywood gun shop.
