Description
Group portrait of cyclists (likely Garden City Cyclers) and their coach or manager, holding the Leavitt & Bill trophy for the 100-mile relay race around the bay, from San Francisco through San Jose to Oakland. Each team comprised ten men and ten "trailers" (a rider towing enough gear to support the racer, if they had a problem), and each racer did a ten-mile segment, handing a token to the next rider from their team, so that the token passed from San Francisco to Oakland. Several teams would compete. Garden City Cyclers of San Jose won it from 1900 to 1905.
