Elizabeth Mary Beatty was born in Los Angeles in 1886 to Thomas Edward and Jane Mary (Boxnell) Beatty. She attended Occidental College. Began her journalist career with Los Angeles Herald in 1904, was feature writer for the San Francisco Bulletin from 1908-1917. Traveled abroad, including revolutionary Russia in 1917 where she covered the Revolution as foreign correspondent. Became editor of McCall's Magazine. In later years worked as screenwriter, was host of own radio show. Was activist in variety of causes, including women's suffrage. Died in 1947.
