Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph caption dated September 13, 1949 reads, "Carl Brassfield finds instrument has much value." The article partially reads, "A number of Valley chickens are going to bed minus their $750 roost these days. A North Hollywood poultryman was using an old battered, antique piano as a roost for his fowl. But along came Carl Brassfield, woodcarver and furniture refinisher, 8060 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, who recognized the instrument's value to the antique world. For a few bucks, Brassfield bought the chicken roost and hauled it to his shop where he has nearly restored it to its original beauty....'I have checked the serial number with the manufacturers and find the instrument was made in the early 1800s,' says Brassfield. The name Chickering and Sons of Boston is stamped on the manufacturer's plate inside the case."
