Description
The Valley to Vietnam series, produced by Sacramento Public Library, traces the arc of experience of Vietnam era veterans living in the Sacramento, California area. Bay Area-born Tom Fante came of age as an undergraduate student at UC-Berkeley, where he was exposed to both Free Speech and Anti-War movements. The draft, however, sent him to Vietnam as a member of the U.S. Army Security Agency where he would work in intelligence in Pleiku, Central Highlands, Republic of South Vietnam. Upon returning home, a love for knowledge would drive him to complete graduate degrees and find a satisfying career in librarianship with the State of California.
