Rabbi Alfred Gottschalk, Dean of the California School of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (left), confers the honorary degree of Doctor of Hebrew Literature on the late Lion Feuchtwanger, accepted by his widow, Mrs. Marta Feuchtwanger (center), at a memorial program at Temple Israel in Hollywood on July 16, 1959, attended by 500 guests and presided over by Rabbi Max Nussbaum (right).
