Various plants which thrive in the Southern California climate such as, cacti, date palms, Canary Island palms, and chaparral shrubs surround the hotel and an arbor, supporting what appears to be Bougainvillea, provides shade. The hotel, designed by architect Richard Requa with the support of Edward Libbey, was built in 1920.
