Photograph caption dated May 13, 1957 reads "Shirley Purdue, 17-year old Valley Jaycee student, enters queen contest which opened 10-day Modern Living Festival at Devonshire Downs. Enrolling her at Valley Youth Center are Mrs. Grace Smith, secretary, and Bob Tunks, program director of Valley Youth Foundation. All gate receipts go to Foundation's Youth Center building fund."
