Photograph caption dated December 16, 1961 reads, "Members of San Fernando's operation Ship Shape, representing Mission City women's clubs, go over plans with Mayor David J. Calderon. The group will march into the downtown area, citing merchants for unsightly stores. With Calderon in the front row are Mary Meisel, chairman of the committee and a representative of the Business and Professional Women's Club, and Peg Riddle, representing the City Beautification Committee, far right. In the second row, left to right, are Mrs. Herbert Speth, Junior Women's Club; Mrs. Calderon, Native Daughters of the Golden West; Nelle Powell, Zonta Club; and Mrs. Edward Korta and Mrs. Eddie Umeck, St. Ferdinand's Parish Council."
