Two men operate the first harvester designed specifically for grapes by the University of California. A Caterpillar diesel tractor is pulling the harvester which, as it moves through the vines, blows leaves out of the way while a 70 lb. roller moves above the vines and pushes the bunches down into cutting position. Once cut, the bunches move along a conveyor belt and are deposite on a strip of brown paper that unrolls from the machine. The grapes are left on the paper to dry.
