Photograph caption dated March 3, 1949 reads, "Smoldering ruins litter the yard of the Air Reducation [sic] Pacific Corporation's plant in Vernon today following a terrific explosion which set 1000 acetylene tanks on fire. The fire sent huge clouds of smoke skyward, visible for miles. In foreground are seen some of the exploded tanks."
