Description
Photograph of a view of the French Fort de la Pompelle in Reims after a German bombardment, ca.1915. The fort is built into the side of an earthen mound, and most of the masonry that is not flush with the dirt has been demolished. There are two partially covered brick archways at right that lead into the ridge, and at extreme right is a brick wall with several small rectangular windows. In the foreground at left is the remains of a corner of the fort's wall. There are low clouds in the sky that add to the bleakness of the scene.
