"Dr. Thesens nybagte gasserdoktorer" ("Dr. Thesen and his new educated Malagasy doctors.") The Medical Mission Academy was established by the Protestant Mission in Madagascar to secure a good and highly qualified education for doctors. In fact it was the forerunner of the University of Madagascar. Under the picture these names are written from left: "Imanoel, Raharijon, Johanesa, Ramboana". Ove J.R. Thesen, 1869-1917, came to Madagascar in 1889 and left in 1905. On furlough 1895-1898. Teacher at The Medical Mission Academy 1890-1895. Director of the NMS Hospital in Tananarive, Andohalo 1890-1895 and again 1898-1903, and Antsirabe 1903-1905. He became famous for his eye operations. He planned the hospital in Antsirabe in 1893.
