Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the Wells Fargo Express building, Columbia, ca.1894. An exterior of a brick building with several iron doors is shown at center, the left portion of which has a second story with a wrought iron balcony. Ivy creeps from the ground at the left side of the image up to the left side of the balcony. The right hand section of the building, once a store, has dental molding detail near its roof line. The painted text on the building, midway down the center section, reads "[E]xpress". The left section also bears a sign reading "[...] Telegraph [?]" and another illegible sign. A billboard at the join between the left and right sections of the building holds a bill reading "P.T.A. Dance" and an illegible bill. Another illegible bill is tacked to the tree at left foreground. The Wells Fargo Express building was built in 1855. The store at its right was converted into a museum.
