The Bryson Block, on the northwest corner of Spring and 2nd., shown about 1900. A window on the third floor bears a sign for the law offices of Jay E. Hunter. A sign at the lower left points to an establishment selling coal for fuel. Many horse carts appear in the photo. The block was commissioned by John Bryson, Sr., Los Angeles mayor, and George H. Bonebrake, banker. The building was six stories plus a basement and contained a lodgeroom on the sixth floor. There was a court in the center of the building. The architects were Joseph Carter Newsom and Samuel Newsom and the building was completed ca. 1888.
