Description
Annotation translation: "The great Ponnani River, somewhat upstream from the estuary, on the Kodakal side. The boats are used to ferry people across - there is always regular traffic by water. At this point there is also an important temple belonging [sic] to Vishnu. It is said that the kings of Malabar used to gather here to elect their Head King. The temple's great days were in the past, however, and little can be seen of this historical significance now. Round here this place, Tirunavaya, is called the southern Benares. Twice every year thousands of people come here from the whole region around to bathe, and to make sacrifices etc.
