Photos are arranged to reproduce the journey starting with voyage by steamer and following the travelers' route from Stewart's Point to Gualala, Point Arena, Navarro Point, Mendocino, and Caspar and return trip by sailboat. Most photos depict aspects of the lumber industry along the route showing chutes for loading vessels at sea, bull teams towing logs on various types of runs, sawmill, log ponds, the loading of railroad cars, the felling of redwoods, etc. Several photos show the travelers fishing, camping, and relaxing.
