Description
San Antonio Shopping Center (also known as San Antonio Center) began in 1957 with the construction of a Sears store. The Center evolved slowly as new stores reconfigured the size and layout of the mall. Through the years, San Antonio was anchored by such large department stores as Rhodes, Liberty House, J.C. Penney and finally Mervyn's. By the 1970s, the Center had completed extensive remodeling and was a true pedestrian mall. Twenty years later, vacancies were high and the San Antonio Center again revamped and expanded. Wal-Mart opened in 1995 giving the shopping center a major commercial attraction.
