Description
"Mrs Watson is the widow of the Rev. Thomas Watson, who went out to Kebwezi in 1891, the first site of the Mission. In 1898, Mr. Watson transferred the Mission to Kikuyu it's present site. Mrs Watson joined him in 1899, but after one short year of married life, Mr. Watson died in 1900. For a whole year Mrs Watson held the fort alone, til Dr. Ruffelle Scott joined her in 1901. She is still working away at Kikuyu, and has the joy to-day of seeing the fruit of her labours in the wonderful results of these last 4 years. Her work to-day is chiefly the care of the boys & girls, in their clothing and feeding, the looking after the dormitories, and the numerous duties entailed in the arduous and yet essential work." Portrait of Mrs Watson of the Kikuyu mission. ❧ "This Lecture was prepared by Dr J.W. Arthur in October 1911 on his voyage to Mombasa. The set of slides is the gift to the Kikuyu Mission of the Young Peoples Meeting at the Burgh Hall, Hillhead, of which he was for many years a member." A green folder marked 'Kikuyu' and containing lecture notes and relevant photographs to accompany lantern slides.
