Description
Born in 1899 in Washington D.C., Ida Marie Johnson moved with her family to Los Angeles when she was 19. In 1927, she married Will W. Johnson, the first Black policeman in the Santa Monica Police Department. The couple had two daughters and was active in the church and community, where Ida used her talent as a pianist. On various occasions she accompanied the renowned soprano Sherman Doll Jones in recital appearances. Johnson died in 1998.
