Description
Photograph of a view of Timm's Point and the Timm's Point Hotel at the Port of Los Angeles, looking south, ca.1888. A wide, marshy area is shown, on which a number of shipping houses can be seen along the set of railroad tracks that cut in from a hill in the center foreground and below where several piles of lumber can be seen. In the distance, the breakwater can be seen serpentining out towards Dead Man's Island, which is pictured to the right. Ships are visible in the harbor. An earlier record locates the hotel in the "upper middle ground". The image shows Timm's Point prior to dredging. The railroad was laid in 1883.
