Description
Pictured in October 1961, a young librarian issues a library card at the Mabel Gillis Branch of the Sacramento City Library, located at 4001 Sixtieth Street. According to the then City Librarian, Miss Dorothy Drake, libraries in the early-60s were experiencing an upsurge in the youth readership based on the publishers’ increased efforts to make books more readable for younger ages.
