Description
Photograph of a tree growing on a shale ledge, [s.d.]. Thin, lightly colored sticks are scattered across the desert ground in the foreground with the a small tree grows at center behind them. The tree appears to have two small branches protruding from its center. Dark tall bushes crowd the background several feet away from the tree on all sides. "No. 7. This little tree is growing out of a shale ledge. Note the absence of surrounding brush. This is typical of the whole planting - the poorer the ground the greater has been the growth of the pine in comparison to that of native shrub".
