Tinted lantern slide of the building of a new bridge at Tientsin (Tianjin). Working men sit below the new bridge and on the bridge itself, which is built with iron girders. The bridge is possibly what is now known as Jiefang (Liberation) Bridge over the river Haihe in central Tianjin. Building on this bridge started in 1902, but was rebuilt in 1923 and finally completed in 1927. The slide was developed by the Photo Department, Tientsin Hui Wen Academy, Tientsin, China. This slide comes from a collection held by the Church of Scotland and generated by the medical missionary Charles Somerville, who worked for the London Missionary Society in Hankou from 1904 to 1914.
