Photograph was edited for publication purposes. The Los Angeles Police Department's Air Support Division was first established as the LAPD Helicopter Unit in 1956 with one Hiller UH-12C three-seat helicopter. Photograph caption dated August 30, 1960 reads "Officers Donalds [sic] S. Miles, left, and Boris Newstetter prepare for flight." The article partially reads "During the peak morning and evening hours of each day the flying squad of the Los Angeles Police Department is in the air, working traffic cruiser duty in a badge-marked Heller [sic] 12-C helicopter."
