Description
Photograph of a lumber yard where they are cutting lumber for fruit boxes, ca.1930. Wooden planks are neatly stacked in tall piles in the foreground while stacks in the front appear to be pulled on a railroad track with a steam engine in the back to the right of center. Steam spews out of a spout while men sit on the engine. On the right, more wood is warehoused under open air structures while a darkly colored building can be seen on the left. In the right background a heap of dirt can be seen towering over a field of unidentified structures. Tall coniferous trees can be seen in the background. Photoprint reads: "One corner of big lumber yards of Red River Lumber Company at Westwood, Lassen County. This Plant is one of the three big plants in Lassen County which supply the Fruit Growers of Southern California with box shook and which supply the home building with high grade white pine lumber. Six thousand men are employed in the lumber industry in Lassen County which is the biggest lumber producing county in California".
