Description
Description accompanying photo states: "Shown above prominent Indians of the Yurok Indian tribe of Klamath, Del Norte County, who will participate in their ritualistic sacred "brush dance" during the three-day Klamath River Carnival, July 8-9-10. They are, from left to right, Victoria Jensaw; Hereditary Chief Robert Spott; Princess Lawana Brantner; Murray Stravers, Executive Secretary of California Senate Committee on Unamerican Activities; and Virginia Taylor. They w(ear) authentic original Yurok Indian ceremonial garb, priceless and handed down from generations of Indians. Besides Indian games and dances, the Carnival will feature a dangerous 176-mile race down the Klamath, shorter races, rodeos, prizefights, and much other entertainment. The event celebrates the opening of the salmon fishing season."
