Photograph of workmen laying rails for the Los Angeles and Agricultural Park Street cars on Main Street near Third Street, ca.1886. The dozens of workers wield picks and shovels tearing up the dirt street for the rail line. Several one-story buildings and the dome of a taller tower are visible in the background. Legible signs include: "Liquors, cigars" and "Candy Factory". "The Main Street Railroad Co. has a large force of men at work laying a double track. They are now working between Fifth and Seventh Streets." -- Express (21 July 1886).
