Description
Photo--black and white: Freight engine of the Petaluma & Santa Rosa Railroad. William Elsworth Park is operating 500 horsepower electric engine No. 506. Park was a longtime P&SR employee. The 506 was unique among P&SR rolling stock as being the only "homemade" engine. It was rebuilt from a used Ocean Shore Railroad engine, Baldwin trucks, GE motors and electrical gear and body from Sacramento Northern. Notice the simple trolley pole atop the cab which were phased out in favor of the pantographs. The pantograph collectors had the advantage of more stability at high speeds.
