Description
According the Konjaku monogatari, a devout young woman valued all sentient beings, and bought some live crabs at a market to set them free. Later when her father saw a snake about to eat a frog, he asked the snake to give up his meal in return for marriage to his daughter. That evening a man arrived to marry the girl, but she refused and prayed for help, reciting the sutra to Kannon; the man turned into a snake, but many crabs came to kill the snake and rescue the girl.
