Description
Image of a certificate with image of a soldier in full military uniform standing with rifle and bayonet in hand on a dirt road outside the fence of a large military encampment; ranks of soldiers on foot and on horseback, cannons, and rows of tents visible in camp; civilian man and woman in a two-wheeled horse-drawn cart in the foreground at left.
"Drawn & Engraved by J. Yeager"--text, bottom right of image. "This is to certify that Edward C. Williams was on the first day of January One Thousand Eight Hundred and thirty nine duly elected a Member of the Volunteer Infantry Company called the Dauphin Guards Attached to the Fifth Division of P.M. and was duly uniformed and equipped according to law and served as a Member of said Volunteer Corps for Seven years and has complied with the Act of Assembly for the regulation of the Militia of this Commonwealth. Wm. Watson Captain. Harrisburg Sept. 26th 1846."--text, printed and handwritten, bottom center of image.
