In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 433.
This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Caption printed on photo: "Palace Buffet." Text written underneath: "Bar Room-Palace Hotel. The best people from all over the world have at one time or another rested their tired feet on the highly polished brass rail of this bar counter. I've been there myself ask Sam Ewing 'S.F. Bulletin' writer." This is a view of the post-fire Palace Hotel bar; Maxfield Parrish's painting, "The Pied Piper," can be seen behind the bar. The bar is elegantly wood paneled and features distinctive chandeliers. A row of wooden tables with chairs and candles are arranged down the middle of the room. Luxuriously upholstered booths are placed next to the wall. In spite of the printed caption no buffet can be seen. This bar was known as the "Pied Piper" for many years and is now called "Maxfield's."
