Born in New York in 1852. Parents emigrated from Germany in 1844, arriving in Sacramento in 1860. William began work in grocery trade, later becoming banker/financier. Worked for California National Bank, president of Earl Fruit Company of California, Buffalo Brewing Company and Folsom Development Co. Was County Auditor and Record of Sacramento County from 1877-1885. Served as State Fish Commissioner in 1901. Died in 1928.
