Photograph shows portrait of Thomas Fleming. Fleming came to Chico in 1919 at age 11. He attended Chico State in 1932 as a Political Science Major. Moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and became a Journalist. He is known as West Coast's oldest and longest-running black journalist. During his 1998 (at age 90) visit to Chico State he was presented a series of awards including certificates from the Alumni Association and Black Faculty, Staff, and Students at Chico State. The Pan-African Union also announced a scholarship in Mr. Fleming's honor.
