Description
Pictured in 1961 is the recently constructed Confucius School at 901 Fourth St. The school, attached to the Confucius Church, was built to accommodate up 160 students and a teaching staff of seven. Its primary goal was to provide after-school Chinese language instruction for children. The school had been located at 522 M St., but fell prey in 1958 to Sacramento’s redevelopment drive. Plans for the new structures – church and school – had been formulated as early as 1952.
