Slide Series, Bangladesh 1990: "Leprosy - the old scourge" - No. 05: A leper man with collapse of the nose. Just that, to be identified as a leper, is often a bigger problem for the patient than the disease itself. Especially in areas where superstition, prejudice and ignorance are widespread, this kind of symptom may quite destroy a family's livelihood, and cause the patient and maybe his family to leave the place. This problem can be solved by operation with insertion of a prosthesis. However, this intervention has to be performed by a plastic surgeon.
