July 26, 1911 409 W. Hillcrest, Directly behind the young girl is W.N. Monroe. To the left of Monroe is the picture is James W. LaForce, M.D. (gggrandfather of Stephen Baker) who retired to Monrovia in 1889 from Iowa, where he had known the Monroes. Attendees: "Charles Snyder, a native of Germany, aged 88 years; Dr. J. W. LeForce, aged 85, of Kentucky; John Bartle, aged 85, of England; W. C. Badeau, aged 84, of New York; Judge J. B. Holloway, aged 83, of Tennessee; J. H. Bennett, aged 82, of Maryland; S. L. Clark, aged 80, of Indiana; H. D. Fowler, aged 79, of North Carolina; W. L. Sackett, aged 78, of Ohio; Charles G. Rogers, aged 77, of New York; C. H. Reed, Sr., aged 76, of Canada; J. F. Twitchell, of Canada, aged 76; W. C. McGan, aged 76, of Tennessee; H. Burnett, aged 76, of Ohio; M. Carson, aged 75, of New York; C. S. Bowerman, aged 75, of Canada; G. H. Hutchins, aged 74, of Connecticut; J. G. Cross, aged 76, of New York; Dr. A. Johnson, aged 74, of Indiana; E. Comb, aged 75, of Kentucky; P. Davies, aged 72, of Ireland; L. Barnes, aged 72, of Missouri; S. S. Garst, aged 72, of Tennessee; Dr. R. D. Adams, aged 70, of Michigan; W. N. Monroe, "the father of Monrovia," aged 70, of Indiana; and Thomas Pottenger, aged 71, of Ohio. As each guest arrived he registered his name, age, State of birth and weight. The Colonel decorated each with a badge, being a one dollar silver certificate upon which was pinned a typewritten slip bearing the words, "Monrovia, Cal., July 26, 1911. R. M. Baker birthday badge, 77 years old today." A group picture was taken of the venerable guests as they were assembled upon the front steps of the Colonel's home, after which a banquet was spread upon tables arranged on the front veranda."(See page 122 John L.
