Photograph caption dated October 28, 1941 reads, “An atmosphere of tenseness hovers over ‘Little Tokio’ [sic] today as the Japanese-American crisis turns critical following Secretary Knox's statement that a Pacific war ‘is inevitable’ and Premier Tojo's ‘we must go on’ challenge. Today 250 Japanese nationals left for Japan. Miss Toshie Yamasaki at left, tourist bureau secretary, is shown aiding a tourist official start his trip.”
