Description
Extracts from five maps which show the northwest coast. Engraved maps, 36.5 x 29, issued by Robert de Vaugondy to illustrate the current views of the geography of the northwest in supplement to Diderot's "Encyclopedie." The set was also issued in a smaller form. Depicts California as interpreted by five different cartographers from approximately 1604 to 1767: Mathieu Neron Picci, Nicolas Sanson, Guillaume de L'Isle, Father Eusebio Kino, and an unnamed Jesuit.
