Description
Shown in circa 1920 is Albert Elkus Clothing at 9th and K streets, a continuation of a business set up by Louis Elkus in the early 1850s at Second and J Streets. Louis’ son Albert was interested in newspaper work and was hired by the Sacramento Bee but his father insisted he carry on the family business and that he did, moving the store’s location to the corner of Ninth and K in 1899 when the area was mainly residential.
