Photo source: Christmas 1916 Monrovia Daily News. Kirk E. Lawrence was a teller at the First National bank at its beginnings. He served in the "Monrovia Rifles", which became the "Monrovia Guards," formed to be prepared to respond to a call of arms after the outbreak of the Spanish-American War in 1898. John L.
