Description
Group photo of the young women participating in the 1940 Moon Festival parade, taken at City Hall. Jenny Lee is standing 4th from the left; Lucy Lee is standing 8th from right; and Mamie Lee (Larson) is standing 5th from right. The Moon or Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most important holidays in the Chinese calendar, falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the Chinese calendar (which is usually around mid- or late-September in the Gregorian calendar). When the festival occurs, the moon is at its fullest and brightest, making it an ideal time for celebration. The traditional food of this festival is the mooncake, of which there are many different varieties.
