Description
Album of 82 individual photographs covering Southern Pacific Railroad's proposed line change through West San Jose and Willow Glen. This effort was required to remove the railroad's main line off Fourth Street in downtown San Jose. Taken in 1928, the album's images start in the north at Lenzen Avenue and continue south across Santa Clara Street, San Carlos Street, Bird Avenue, etc, finishing near Monterey Highway in the south. Images illustrate the properties adjcent to the right-of-way before the railroad initiated construction on the project which was delayed by several years of litigation. Most of the pictured grade crossings were replaced with new overcrossings or viaducts. The new line and the new depot at Cahill Street were opened in late December 1935.
