Description
This circa 1900 postcard provides a still life of magnolia blossoms and lemon slices. The magnolia, a plant native to the American South, can draw its California origins to the Gold Rush, having been transported west by southern born Argonauts. Well suited to California's moderate climate, the magnolia also benefited from the state's plentiful alluvial soil.
