Photograph of Santa Monica's Arcadia Hotel and Bath House from the beach, ca.1889. Hotel was named after Arcadia de Baker and opened in 1887. The main building is about five stories high. A flag flies from the highest tower. There are many sunbathers on the beach. Additional buildings can be seen at the beach level and in the background. Also visible are a wind vane and a water tower in the background. Legible signs include: "Arcadia bath houses". The breaking waves of the ocean are also visible.
