Description
Photograph of a view of Philadelphia Street looking east on Greenleaf Avenue in Whittier, ca.1924. In the left foreground, the one-story Central Market building is visible, a canopy extending over its display windows. A little farther back on the sidewalk, a man poses against a lamp post. At center, cars make their way up and down Philadelphia, while others are parked along the sidewalks, both diagonally and parallel. To the right, a six-story buidling towers over the rest of the modest commercial shops. A tree-dappled hill is visible in the distance. Legible signs from left to right include: "Whittier Jersey Dairy", "Soda Drugs Cigars", "Shoes", "Hotel", "Jewelry", "Cafe", "Luthen's Men Shop" and "Suits Cleaned and Pressed. Alterations".
