Description
Faces of Lincoln Beachey and Roy Francis, superimposed next to their airplanes, with the caption "Worlds Greatest Aviators, Beachy & Francis - Playing Leap Frog - TANFORAN - Dec 25 to 29 - 1912." The postcard is postmarked December 28, [191?] from San Francisco Aviation Post Office No. 1, but the sender has written "Dec 28, 1913" as the date. (The postmark date is slightly obscured). It was written by Doris and Clive and addressed to Mrs. P. F. Grainger of Half Moon Bay. They write that "the machines look like great big butterflies. The flying has not started yet so I can't say much about it..." This postcard may have been mailed from the sub-station set up for the Tanforan Air Meet at Tanforan Racetrack in San Bruno, Calif. There are accompanying notes regarding the sub-station and value.
